I have been invited to be one of only sixty members of the Office of the Public Guardian's Deputy Panel. The appointment takes effect from April 2011. Where a person lacks capacity to manage his or her affairs the Court of Protection will look to appoint a Panel Deputy if the person has no family or friends willing to act, or where there is conflict within the person's family. I already act as Deputy and Attorney for a large number of individuals.
I can give specialist advice on care provision and nursing home funding advice, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Deputyships and other orders of the Court of Protection and specialist Wills providing for vulnerable beneficiaries. I deal with most areas of care and protection of the vulnerable.
I supported the Charity Action on Elder Abuse in making representations to the Lord Chancellor. I have also written articles about the resulting changes to the law to protect vulnerable adults. The articles have been published in legal journals and also in the The Times.
I enjoy undertaking Family History Research. This means I have experience of tracing relatives, both living and deceased. This is used in tracing the beneficiaries of intestate estates and also to find missing beneficiaries named in Wills. People-tracing can also be required for some Court of Protection work.
I have two English Springer Spaniels who take up a large amount of my leisure time.
