Who is at Risk from Asbestos Exposure?
People who have worked in industries where asbestos was heavily used particularly in 1970s to 1990’s, are more at risk from asbestos exposure.
These industries may include construction, plumbing and shipbuilding.
Nowadays, you’re only likely to come into contact with asbestos if it is disturbed or damaged in old buildings.
You may also be at risk if you have lived with a worker who was exposed to asbestos. They may have carried asbestos fibres home on their clothing, where family members could breathe them in.
Martyn Trenerry, a specialist in personal injury claims, said:
“Many claimants are exposed to asbestos when working for different employers. These employers and their insurers often have complex histories. Tracing the insurers can prove a complicated task, as often the company involved has ceased to trade and may have used a number of insurance companies over the years. It may be necessary to bring back the company onto the register at Companies House before they are willing to negotiate.”
