Mock Employment Tribunal

In 2013 the government took the decision to introduce Employment Tribunal fees, leading to an almost 80% reduction in the number claims issued.  In July this year the Supreme Court scrapped Employment Tribunal fees, deeming them to be unlawful.

In anticipation of the number of claims increasing to pre-2013 levels and following on from the success of previous years, the employment team at Mullis & Peake are hosting another Mock Employment Tribunal to illustrate the risks and pitfalls employers and HR advisers face when contesting unfair dismissal and misconduct proceedings.   

A trial can often be theatrical, with dramatic performances from both witnesses and barristers, so what better place to stage this popular event than at a local theatre.  

To ensure the trial is as realistic as possible, we have enlisted current practising barristers at renowned chambers, 42 Bedford Row, who will play themselves. Mullis & Peake staff will play the roles of 'claimant' - the employee bringing the claim and 'respondent' - the employer against whom the claim is brought. Both parties will be prepared to contest the matter before the Tribunal.  

The audience will be provided with the evidence pack and have an opportunity to vote on an outcome to see whether their views match that of the Judge, whose decision will not be made until all evidence has been heard.
