The history of Mullis & Peake

1902

Fred Mullis arrived in Essex from Devon and established his business above a cycle shop on North Street, Romford.

1910

Fred Mullis formed a partnership with Mr Surridge, creating Surridge & Mullis.

1912

The firm moved to South Street in Romford. A year later, Mr. Surridge left for the USA, leaving Fred to continue on his own.

1919

Lewis Peake joined the firm after army demobilisation, beginning the Mullis & Peake partnership.

1924

Lionel Mullis joined the firm, strengthening the family legacy.

1931

Founder Fred Mullis retired after 28 years, leaving the firm to his son.

1933

The headquarters moved to Western Road to support the firm’s expansion.

1935

A second office opened in Chadwell Heath.

1937

Daisy Peake joined the firm to manage the Chadwell Heath office, becoming one of the UK’s earliest female lawyers.

1974

After 40 years in Western Road, the headquarters returned to South Street.

1991

Cedric Mullis retired as senior partner, concluding the third generation’s leadership.

2015

A second modern office opened in Shenfield.

2018

McCorry Connolly Solicitors Ltd joined Mullis & Peake LLP.

2022

Stanton and Doran Solicitors of Upminster joined the firm.

2023

The firm joined with Wells Solicitors and opened a new Upminster office.
