Within the family mediation process you will be able to speak to a trained mediator who will then arrange a series of face-to-face, or online, meetings with your ex-partner. The mediator is trained to assist you in helping to identify issues and finding working solutions tailored to your family and your individual needs.
Communication after separation can be difficult and so the mediator is trained to assist you with this in a safe and supportive environment.
Family mediation can consider any issues important to you following a separation and this will often include parenting issues, such as living arrangements for the children and when they will spend time with each parent, arrangements for school holidays and trips abroad, special events and times such as Christmas and birthdays.
Financial issues can include arrangements for the family home, who will live where, if properties need to be sold or divided between you, full consideration of financial information including disclosure, consideration of pensions, investments and other assets.
If you are struggling with dealing with any of the above issues, or indeed any other issues following a separation, then please contact us to speak with our family mediator.
Our family mediator, Jessica Thrower, who has 20 years’ experience in family law as a solicitor, and 10 years as a family mediator, says:
“The mediation process is flexible, we can discuss what is important to the people involved, rather than be limited to the rigidity of court proceedings.
Where individuals try to agree matters between themselves without any support, there can often be misinformation, incorrect assumptions, power imbalances and other issues which lead to matters not being agreed, or often one party accepting a bad deal. With family mediation we are seeking the fairest and most appropriate outcome for the people involved.”
