Mesothelioma Claims Solicitors Essex

A diagnosis of mesothelioma is life-changing and often comes with shock, uncertainty, and concern for the future. Our Personal Injury team provides clear, compassionate legal advice to help you understand whether a compensation claim may be available and how it could support you and your family.

Have you or a loved one been affected by mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma is one of the most serious asbestos-related diseases. It can take decades to develop, meaning many people are only diagnosed long after their exposure occurred. At this stage, it is natural to feel overwhelmed, uncertain, or unsure where to turn.

You may be wondering whether a claim is still possible, what evidence is needed, or how legal action fits alongside treatment and care. Our role is to guide you through this process carefully, helping you understand your rights while reducing the burden at an already difficult time.

Assessing Asbestos Exposure

We help identify when and where asbestos exposure may have occurred, often many years ago. This includes reviewing work history, sites, and products to establish a clear picture of potential responsibility.

Establishing Liability

We investigate whether employers or other parties failed in their duty to protect against asbestos exposure. This may involve tracing insurers or historic records, even where businesses no longer exist.

Compensation Claims

We advise on claiming compensation for pain and suffering, loss of income, care needs, medical expenses, and financial security for your family, explaining what may be included and why.

Claims for Family Members

If a loved one is too unwell or has passed away, we advise family members on bringing a claim on their behalf, including dependency claims and key time limits.

Negotiation and settlement

Many claims are resolved without court proceedings. We manage discussions with insurers to achieve fair outcomes efficiently, keeping you informed and in control throughout.

Court Proceedings

Where court action is required, we provide clear representation and guidance, focusing on minimising stress and explaining each stage of the process in plain English.

Understanding mesothelioma and asbestos exposure

What is mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer caused almost exclusively by asbestos exposure. It commonly affects the lining of the lungs (pleural mesothelioma), but can also affect the abdomen or other areas. Symptoms often include shortness of breath, chest or abdominal pain, fatigue, weight loss, and fluid build-up.

The disease has a long latency period, typically developing between 10 and 50 years after exposure. As a result, many people are diagnosed later in life, often without having realised they were ever at risk.

How asbestos exposure happens

Exposure most commonly occurred in workplaces where asbestos was widely used, including construction, shipbuilding, power stations, manufacturing, boiler rooms, schools, hospitals, and public buildings. In some cases, people were exposed without adequate warnings or protective measures.

Mesothelioma can also arise from secondary exposure, for example where asbestos fibres were brought home on work clothing, affecting family members.

When a claim may be possible

If your illness can be linked to asbestos exposure caused by an employer or organisation that failed to protect you, you may be entitled to compensation. Claims can sometimes be brought even if the company no longer exists, and in some circumstances on behalf of a loved one who has died.
