How to take photographs of your slip or trip

In slip and trip cases it is very important to have clear evidence to support your claim.

This makes it harder for insurers to dispute the severity of a defect if the evidence is clear in photographs. In order for us to assess the prospects of bringing a claim, we need to see photographs of the accident location and the surrounding area. Below are some tips for ensuring photographic evidence is clear:

  1. If you are taking a photograph of flagstones, kerbs or potholes, it is important that the area must protrude above or below ground level by at least one inch.
  2. In order to give a good indication of the depth or height, try and use a ruler, or your car keys. The photograph must be taken at floor level so that it is on the same level as the ruler and the defect.
  3. It is best to take a number of photographs which also include the surrounding area of the accident spot. Also ensure a note is taken of the direction you were walking when the incident occurred.
  4. If the area has been repaired since your accident take photographs showing the repair and also the surrounding areas.
