M&P COTY – The Marillac Neurological Care Centre
M&P staff recently attended a presentation by our new COTY – The Marillac Neurological Care Centre. Presented by Liesbeth Newman and Tess Essop from the charity.
M&P are delighted that we will be working closely with the charity over the coming year to raise awareness of their excellent work. Hearing people from the charity talk directly about the work they do was invaluable.
The Marillac Neurological Care Centre, based in Brentwood, provides long-term care and specialist rehabilitation for people with complex or profound disability following traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury or progressive neurological conditions. Their 52 residents are adapting to an uncertain future, relearning what they can achieve and resetting their life goals.
Sadly, every 90 seconds someone in the UK is admitted to hospital with a brain injury (a result of strokes, falls, traffic accidents, assaults, tumours, or infections). It only takes a few seconds for a life to be completely knocked off course. Brain injuries can have devastating, life-long effects on anyone.
The centre provides holistic care that encompasses medical, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech & language therapy, plus nutritional, psychological, recreational, and pastoral care.
Their therapeutic offering aims to enhance quality of life, promote independence and ultimately ensure a safe transition back into the community. The activities programme is designed to contribute to resident sense of choice, wellbeing, and fulfilment.
