Taking Legal Support to New Heights: Our Journey with the LawNet Challenge

At Mullis & Peake, we believe being part of a law firm means more than just providing expert legal advice – it means giving back, building community, and challenging ourselves to do more.

That’s why each year, we proudly lace up our hiking boots, brave the unpredictable weather, and take part in something truly special: ‘The LawNet Challenge.’

1. What is the LawNet Challenge?

The LawNet Challenge is no ordinary corporate event. It’s an annual outdoor adventure that quite literally takes networking to new heights – with law firm teams from across the UK tackling tough mountain routes in stunning locations like the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.

Organised by LawNet, a collaborative network of independent law firms, this event has been running since 2009. It’s more than a test of stamina – it’s about raising funds for vital charities, building camaraderie across the legal industry, and making a tangible impact in our communities.

2. Why We Participate?

At Mullis & Peake, the LawNet Challenge is more than just a day out of the office – it’s a reflection of who we are and what we stand for.

As a modern, people-first law firm, we’re grounded in values that go beyond legal expertise. We believe in putting people at the heart of everything we do – whether that’s our clients, our colleagues, or our community. The Challenge is a natural extension of our commitment to social responsibility and community engagement.

It’s not just about the miles covered – it’s about the shared purpose, the team spirit, and the opportunity to support life-changing causes. Taking part allows us to strengthen bonds within our team while making a real difference in the lives of those facing extraordinary challenges.

At Mullis & Peake, we don’t just talk about being “more than just solicitors” – we live it.

3. Our Journey with the Challenge

In 2024, we pushed even further. Charlotte, Julie, Vernon, Hazara, Shah, and William headed to Borrowdale in the Lake District.

The day was wet. The terrain was tough. The incline? Brutal. But our team stayed focused and supported one another every step of the 10.1-mile ascent, with over 3,000 feet of elevation. After eight solid hours, we crossed the finish line with a first place overall.

The real reward, however, wasn’t just the position. It was the camaraderie, the laughter, the shared struggle and the reminder of why we do this.

As one teammate put it:

“You really get to see people’s strength, humour, and heart out there. It brings out the best in us.”

But it’s about more than miles and medals. Each year, our efforts support meaningful causes, with growing fundraising goals and incredible community support making a real impact.

We’re now gearing up for 2025, as Hazara from the Wills and Probate team and Shah from the Residential Property team prepare to take on Fremington Edge in the Yorkshire Dales. For us, the LawNet Challenge isn’t just an event – it’s part of who we are.

4. About the Cause

At the heart of our efforts lies the question: who benefits from our boots on the ground?

In 2023, we raised funds for Kids in Need (KIN) – an organisation helping children and families facing serious disadvantage. The funds supported vital programs providing food, education, and safe spaces for vulnerable youth.

In 2024 (and continuing into 2025), we’re proud to support the Marillac Neurological Care Centre – a specialist rehabilitation facility for individuals living with life-altering neurological conditions. As they say, “it only takes a few seconds for a life to be completely knocked off course.” The funds we raise help provide expert care, rehabilitation, and support services that restore dignity and hope for residents and their families.

This cause reminds us that our efforts matter, and every donation can help someone rebuild their life.

5. How You Can Support

Feeling inspired? We’d love for you to be part of this journey.

  • You can support our current fundraising efforts here, every donation goes directly to the charity and makes a measurable difference.
  • Not able to donate? Help us spread the word by sharing our campaign on social media or within your networks.

6. Thank You to Our Supporters

To everyone who has donated, sponsored, cheered us on, or simply followed our journey – thank you.

Your support fuels every step we take and every pound we raise. Special thanks go to the LawNet team and George Coombes, whose vision and leadership make these events not just possible, but unforgettable.

And of course, heartfelt appreciation to our incredible team members who train, fundraise, and give their all for the cause. You embody the very best of what we stand for.
