Mock Employment Tribunal with a twist

Date: Wednesday 14 October 2015 15:30 - 19:30
Cost: 0

Address: 15 Shenfield Road, Brentwood, United Kingdom, Essex

Employers and HR advisers will be given the chance to witness exactly how an Employment Tribunal hearing works, providing valuable insight into how the final decisions are made.

Staged by the Employment team at Mullis & Peake Solicitors the Mock Employment Tribunal will demonstrate the potential pitfalls for employers and their HR advisers when faced with unfair dismissal and misconduct proceedings.

To ensure the event is as realistic as possible, the Employment team have drafted in the help of and current practising Barristers with considerable experience in the real-life Tribunal setting. Mullis & Peake staff will play the roles of 'claimant' - the employee bringing the claim - and 'respondents' - the employer against whom the claim is brought. Both parties will be prepared to contest the matter before the Tribunal.

To keep it authentic, the Judge presiding over the case will not have heard the evidence before and so the decision will be handed out on the day. For the budding lawyers in the audience, guests will also have an opportunity to vote on an outcome to see whether their views match that of the Judge.

Part of my role in the firm is to help business owners and HR Managers avoid tribunal proceedings. However, litigation is always risky and therefore it is important that employers understand what a trial might entail, if only to avoid making mistakes and falling into common traps and pitfalls.

This event will give a unique insight to the goings on in a tribunal room. By using real life advocates, guests can see exactly the techniques and skills they employ to win their client’s case. A trial can often be theatrical, with dramatic performances from both witnesses and barristers so what better place to stage this popular event than a local theatre.

This year we have revamped the event with brand new case material and leading barristers from the City taking part, so we expect it to be even bigger and better than past years. Places have filled quickly in past years so we implore you to book early to avoid disappointment.

Why attend?

With Employment Tribunal hearings remaining high and the value of compensation awarded increasing year on year, the possibility of employers having to defend themselves against such claims is a very real concern. Areas covered include;

  • De-mystify the Employment Tribunal process, witness the layout, giving evidence, cross examination;
  • The steps that should be taken to put you in the best position to successfully defend a claim;
  • Show you the role of the Judge and how they make their decisions, with a chance for all guests to vote on the outcome before the final verdict is made.

Who should attend?

This event is aimed at HR managers and professionals and business owners who may benefit from understanding what they could face at a real life Employment Tribunal, helping them understand how to mitigate their risk of receiving a claim.
